Happy 28th birthday to Samantha! My main partner in crime for the last 8 ½ years had the day off today on her birthday, so what better way to celebrate than a sexy birthday photo shoot in her birthday suit?
After stopping off to buy some cake, candles, balloons, party hats, and a Big Mac meal, Sam dropped by and we assembled it all into a sexy birthday photo shoot. I quickly whipped out my Neewer 18” RL-18 LED Ringlight which is sometimes a little more convenient to use than the Alien Bees ABR800 Ringflash. Because the Neewer uses LEDs (intended for video), it’s reasonably bright but doesn’t heat up, and it’s very thin and lightweight for its size. Highly recommended. We used it for everything except the shot of Sam lying down among her balloons, which was window light only.
The one downside of the Neewer compared to the Alien Bees ABR800 is that it can never be as bright. As I just mentioned, it’s reasonably bright, but a constant light source just can’t pack the same punch as a strobe. I was working at an aperture of ƒ/4 and shutter speed of 1/200 for most of these photos, but that was with the Neewer at full brightness and the camera ISO value set to 1600.
Sam’s wardrobe (such that it is) came from La Senza and Sirens by Urban Planet. I love lacy bralettes and Sam picked out some great ones for this shoot. The sheer black bodysuit is from Forever 21 and it’s one you’ve seen before here on this site. You can follow Sam on Instagram.
