It’s been a long, long time since Blue Jays fan Katie and I got together, but together we got at her new-ish home and made some pictures. A sunny day made it easy to get some beautiful, backlit images indoors, and a sunshade on the balcony helped diffuse the light for a few outdoor shots.
Everything here was shot with the combination of the Nikon D600 DSLR and Nikon 85mm FX ƒ/1.8G AF-S Lens. Though the Nikon 85mm was a bit tight indoors, I managed to creatively squish myself into some cramped corners to get the shots. That meant standing in the hallway outside Katie’s bedroom and shooting through the doorway. Being a big Blue Jays fan, she really wanted to wear her jersey for a few photos, and I loved the way the blue colour popped with the available lighting.
Katie’s balcony was partially covered with a translucent shade, which acted as an awesome scrim to diffuse the bright sunlight when she stood underneath it. Setting the Nikon 85mm lens to ƒ/2.2 allowed me to blur out the busy city behind Katie’s head and keep the focus on her.
