There was a period there where I thought Gillian would never go back to being blonde. But after a year or so of flirting with other colours of the rainbow, she’s back to her old blonde self and looking better than ever. We’ve now done photo sets on the beach twice and at a hotel twice, and I think our most recent ones are our best to date.
Wearing nothing more than a sports bra and a peasant dress (awesome combo, Gillian), we attempted to eat at two of the more acclaimed restaurants in Halifax but were turned away from both. We settled for some stellar Boneheads BBQ instead — pulled pork for me and ribs for Gillian, though we easily could have split one platter and still had food leftover.
For the photo nerds, I can tell you that there were four different types of lighting looks used for these pictures. As I’ve discussed before, I’m a photographer who likes to keep things simple and minimal. For these first images of Gillian (in a black bodysuit I got at la Vie en Rose), there was just one umbrella used.
Despite that black bodysuit being a size “small”, it had enormous cups on it that Gillian luckily filled out. Methinks la Vie en Rose needs to revisit their sizing guidelines though.
Gillian’s pink bodysuit (have I mentioned how much I love bodysuits?) is from Forever 21 and lit only by a large pane of windows directly behind the camera:
Using that same pane of windows, I switched it up and used it as a backlit source instead, with a healthy amount of flare. Not quite JJ Abrams levels, but close enough.
Saved the best for last:
what power setting was the bee?
Great method.
Can’t remember! I usually don’t take note of those things.
